The Simpson's Movie

The Simpson's is the longest running animated show on television today. So, it's no suprise that the movie was as awesome and hilarious as the program. The movie starts out with Itchy and Scratchy on the moon, and Itchy ditches Scratchy there. Back on earth he becomes President along with Hilary Clinton. He finds out Scratchy is still alive and there are black and white shots of him "mulling" over the situation, much like JFK and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The first 10 minutes already had more jokes than a whole half-hour episode. The movie continues with Grandpa Simpson having a revelation in church, predicting a horrible outcome for Springfield. The family returns to normal, and Marge is the only one concerned about the ordeal. Soon Homer stumbles upon a pig, which he makes his pet. In the meanwhile, Bart is upset with his father, and realizes that he wants Homer to be more like their neighbor Flanders. Lisa is busy trying to help people clean up the polluted lake, which Homer decides to dump the pig waste in. The lake becomes so toxic that a government agency EPA decides to put a dome over it. The townspeople become furious with Homer and his family. They try to destroy them, but thanks to Maggie they find a way out of the dome and away from the conflict. The family is upset with Homer, and he tries to redeem himself by traveling to Alaska in a truck he won at a local fair. The Simpsons head to Alaska to start a new life. One night on the TV they see an ad with Tom Hanks saying that there is going to be a brand new canyon where Springfield once was. As the rest of the family wants to save them, Homer wishes to stay in Alaska and "never return to America again." The family leaves and Homer finds a tape left by Marge telling him they are over. It's even taped over their wedding video. Homer leaves heart-broken, only to find an Indian woman. She makes him realize that he must save Springfield to save himself. He returns to find his family has been captured by EPA and forced back in the dome. After a few defeated attempts, he decides to get rid of the bomb the same way he won the truck at the fair. He takes a motorcycle and drives around the dome with Bart holding the bomb. They realize that they are still father and son no matter what. Then Marge explicitly tells them to throw the bomb. They do, and Springfield is saved.

The Simpson's movie is one of the funnier movies I have ever seen, and by far the funniest animated movie. It's satire and humor combined with the lessons throughout the video really make it one-of-a-kind. Watch it, preferably tonight.

The Graduate

The Graduate starts off with a few shots of college graduate Ben Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) and a haunted-sounding song. He arrives home, and his wealthy parents throw a party for him. He seems to be lost and wanting time alone to think about his future. An attractive friend of his parent's, Mrs. Robinson, asks him for a ride home. Ben, being the nice guy he is, does and she invites him to stay until her husband gets home. Moments later, the famous line "Mrs Robinson, are you trying to seduce me?" is blurted out by Ben. Shortly later, Mrs. Robinson is trying to seduce him. Ben manages to leave when her husband arrives, unsuspecting of what happened. He insists on Ben taking his daughter Elaine out when she arrives home from college.

A few days later Ben calls Mrs. Robinson up, nervously asking her out for a drink. She agrees, and they meet at a hotel. She tells him to get them a room, and he does, but not in the smoothest manner possible. They end up hooking up, and Ben feels like he now knows they ways of women. During one of their hotel meetings they end up talking about Elaine. Mrs. Robinson makes Ben promise he will never take Elaine out, and he agrees, although he is not very happy about not knowing why. Elaine arrives home and Ben is forced to take her out. So, he takes her to a strip club to immediately show that it won't work without actually hurting her for no reason except the fact he slept with her mother. They end up liking each other.

Mrs. Robinson is not pleased at all, and threatens to tell Elaine if Ben keeps taking her out. He does it for her, wanting to be honest. She goes back to college, and Ben soon follows to try and win her back. He follows her for a period of time before he "bumps" into her on a bus. She is going to meet a friend at the zoo. She does, and Ben is left alone. The next scene is Ben shaving in his apartment. Elaine busts in asking him why he showed up in Berkely. She then tells him her mother told her that Ben raped her that night at the hotel. Ben straightens things up, and the talk of marriage is in the air.

Awhile later Ben is heading back to his apartment only to find Mr. Robinson waiting for him. He explodes at him, telling Ben him and Mrs. Robinson are getting divorced. He also tells him he is moving Elaine far away, where he can never reach her. Ben finds out she is getting married, and is on a wild-goose chase to get to that wedding. He does, and ends up stealing Elaine during her vows. The last scene is them on a bus, looking rather nervous, wondering what they should do next. The haunting tune from the beginning starts to play....

The Graduate shows that even comedy from almost 50 years ago is still hilarious. Dustin Hoffman does a terrific job of portraying the nervously confident Benjamin Braddock. Watch it, preferably tonight.

Psycho

The beginning of Pyscho seems like an endless storyline to no-where. Marion Crane, a young secretary of a business firm, is running off to her boyfriend with a large amount of cash. Along the drive she falls asleep alongside the road and wakes up the next morning to find a sheriff knocking at her window. He ends up following her to a nearby towning, sparking her to buy a new car. Right away the sheriff seems to be the psycho killer, obesessed with Ms. Crane.

Marion does buy a new car and drives back to her hometown. Along the way a rainstorm causes her to stop at a old motel, the Bates Motel. There she meets a rather sheepish-looking fellow named Norman. He is gawky and somewhat strange, but appears to be harmless. He asks her to eat dinner with him, and she agrees. He runs up to the house to fetch it, and we hear him and his mother arguing about the girl. Awhile later Marion and him talk, and she realizes he is trapped here by his over-bearing mother. Marion decides to return and fess up to what she stole and did. They say goodbye, but moments later Marion steps into the shower. A shadow emerges with a knife and kills her. Back at the house Norman sees blood in the water and figures out what happened. He disposes of the body. At this point it appears the mother may be the killer. \

A P.I., Detective Milton, tracks Marion down here. He talks to Norman, and becomes even more suspicious. He tells Marion's lover and her sister he is here and is going to talk to the old mother. He doesn't get that far as he is killed by a woman in a robe, all the while her face is never shown. He doesn't return, and the other two are still worried about Marion and now him. They show up to the motel as a married couple and rent a room. They dupe Norman and Marion's sister, Lila, goes to the house to look for the mother. Norman realizes this and goes to find her. Lila goes into the fruit cellar and sees the mother facing the wall. She taps her on the shoulder, and BAMMM!, it's a skeloton. Just then Norman prances in the room dressed as his mother with a knife, looking to kill Lila. Sam comes in behind him and manages to hold him back.

At the end they are in the police station, learning why Norman has become a schizo. His mother married a man he disliked very much, so he killed both of them in bed and made it looked like it was the mother's fault. It shows Norman sitting in the room, only his mother's voice is talking for him. He has permently become his mother. There is a fly on his hand, and she says to himself that he won't hurt, so they will say "he wouldn't even hurt a fly."

Psycho is an awesome movie. It's not only a thriller, but also a mystery. The twists and turns Alfred puts in are intense to watch unfold. It is totally worth anyone's time. Watch it, preferably tonight.
